Using the Insights Discovery Framework to Drive Team Growth

Team Flair session

When you hear “team building,” what comes to mind? Maybe it’s an out-of-office day with some slightly awkward icebreakers, a physical challenge (that you hope doesn’t make you look silly in front of colleagues), and fingers crossed for good weather.

While those activities can build bonds and even highlight team dynamics, they’re just one piece of the puzzle. Real team growth takes more than a one-off, quick fix event. It’s about commitment and creating opportunities for consistent development, both as individuals and as a team.

At TeamFlair, we’ve had the privilege of working with Ignition for more than six years. In that time, we’ve seen them evolve from a promising team into a thriving, values-driven organisation. In some ways they’re unrecognisable, given the scale of their growth, and yet their core values and culture have become even more deeply rooted. One of the ways they’ve achieved this is through their use of the Insights Discovery framework, which helps develop their people and support a collaborative, high-performing team environment.

What is Insights Discovery?

Insights Discovery introduces a simple but impactful framework that uses four colours; Cool Blue, Earth Green, Sunshine Yellow, and Fiery Red, to reflect different personality preferences:

  • Cool Blue: Precise and analytical.
  • Earth Green: Empathetic and supportive.
  • Sunshine Yellow: Enthusiastic and creative.
  • Fiery Red: Action-oriented and bold.

The magic? It aids understanding your own strengths and blind spots AND it helps you adapt your communication and working style to work more effectively with others and bring out the best in each other as a team.

Insights: A framework for growth

For Ignition, Insights isn’t just another professional development tool; it’s a way to connect their team on a deeper level. By helping employees understand themselves better, what energises them, what challenges them, and how they interact with others, it creates a shared language that makes collaboration easier.

But it doesn’t stop at individual growth. The framework also helps identify team blind spots, refines decision-making, and improves the way the organisation works as a whole. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about being intentional and aware in how the team grows together.

A personalised touch for every employee

One of the standout features of Ignition’s approach is how universal their investment in people is. Development opportunities like personalised coaching sessions are often reserved for senior leaders or “high potential” employees in other organisations. At Ignition, it’s for everyone.

When a new person joins the team, they are invited to complete an Insights Explore profile, which offers a lite version of the full Insights Discovery report. This introduces a simple, impactful language of colour to your workplace. It’s a self-led, lighter touch experience to develop core soft skills and give team members a way to interact and communicate more effectively and kick start their development within Ignition.

Once the team member passes their probation, they’re invited to a 90-minute, one-on-one Insights profile debrief and coaching session. This isn’t just a box ticking exercise; it’s an opportunity to really explore their unique strengths, preferences, and how they can communicate and collaborate effectively with others. It’s an experience that not only makes employees feel valued but also equips them with practical tools to thrive.

And it doesn’t end there. Every quarter, the whole team comes together for a workshop day. These sessions give the team a chance to reflect on wins, tackle challenges, and focus on how they can continue improving the way they work together. They’re not about reinventing the wheel, but about finding better ways to keep it rolling smoothly. And we keep it fun!

What makes Insights a win for employees?

Insights offers a glimpse into the company’s commitment to its people. It’s more than just personal development, it creates an environment where every individual can grow and feel part of something bigger.

Here’s what employees gain from Insights:

  • Enhanced self-awareness: Understanding your strengths and how to leverage them.
  • Personalised coaching: Tailored sessions that make you feel seen and supported.
  • A shared language: A framework that helps make teamwork more intuitive.

These tools aren’t just for improving performance at work, they’re skills and insights that are useful in every aspect of life.

Insights as a career builder

The beauty of the Insights approach is that its impact doesn’t stop with your current role. Whether it’s improving communication, fostering emotional intelligence, or strengthening relationships, the tools you gain are transferable. They lay the groundwork for long-term career success, no matter where your journey takes you.

Growing as a collective

For us at TeamFlair, partnering with Ignition has been a real pleasure. Their focus, drive and commitment (not to mention being a great bunch of people), makes our work with them a joy. Their commitment to nurturing their people and staying true to their values is something we deeply admire. Not everybody commits and invests. Very few do. Carrie, founder of Ignition, understands that growth isn’t just about numbers, it’s about people, relationships, and culture.

If you’re someone who values continuous learning and a workplace that genuinely invests in its team, Ignition is a place where you can grow, not just professionally, but as a person.

Their story is proof that when you invest in your people, you build stronger teams, deeper connections, and a foundation for sustained success. And as Ignition continues to grow, we look forward to continuing to work alongside them to realise their potential, both individually and as a collective.
